I thought I had found a new breakfast spot at the Clubhouse overlooking the golf course at Sparrebosch. This was after I found and tried their “Greg’s Benedict”. At the time I decided it was a worth a return visit but alas, it is no more. Apparently Greg left some time ago and someone decided he should also be removed from their menu. This was unfortunate as it now leaves me with the choice between Mugg & Bean in Woodmill Lane and Dish which is a new restaurant attached to The Rex on Grey St. But at R55 on “Special” I have not plucked up the courage to try it.
The only other places I know of that offer anything remotely resembling Eggs Benedict are Il de pain, Susi’s and Coffee Connection. The latter two share the same recipe which I dislike and I do wonder whether anyone besides me, who tries it, actually orders it a second time to check if its real or not.
[edit] Update
Cruise Cafe has recently introduced a breakfast menu and they do a poached egg on a generous slice of gammon which at R22 I am going to have to try again.
[edit] 3/5/09
We drove out to the Elephant Park yesterday to find that the restaurant has been taken over by Simon Ash and that they almost admit to having Eggs Benedict on their menu. Its also available at the Whitehouse where Mackintosh’s used to be.
