Ooops!
Saturday, January 26th, 2008Coffee Culture
Saturday, January 26th, 2008When I do coffee its generally and choice between Silver & Sage ( no the coffee shop was not suppoed to be closing), The Lazy Bean (has just changed hands) and sometimes Subz (there is a story there). Where do you top up when its time to do so?
And as for coffee…
We definitely do it. The Eastern Heads cafe is my favourite spot. I swim down there at dawn most mornings and regard it as my local. Friendly service as well as the stunning view. Eventhe new flats going up (are they REALLY R8 million each?) can’t spoil it. The Coffee Connection has always been John’s choice – great coffee, he likes the pavement buzz and when we’re feeling flush we buy their cappucino beans. The Gallery on Leisure Isle is a soothing spot: quiet and very individual. Good value for money too – though the paintings
certainly aren’t! But the best cup of coffee in Knysna? In our not very humble opinion the best coffee in Knysna is served on our very own stoep. So if you’re passing one day, come in and try it!Sandy Kent
PS If anyone knows where to find iced coffee (as opposed to a coffee milkshake) in Knysna,
I’d like to know.
Eating Out
Saturday, January 26th, 2008The Breakfast Club review was not quite as successful as our Sunday Lunch but we will get there. Thanks to everyone who sent in a review. Sandy Kent won our first competition with her review of the Dry Dock and she let us have this review. Many thanks.
I took my husband out to dinner tonight! We chose Emily Moon on the Bitou River. It’s heavy
on ambience – Lost City cum Out of Africa. All rather contrived, of course, but alluring
nontheless – particularly in candlelight. We timed our arrival for sunset and had a table on the
deck, looking out over the wetland. I hadn’t realised just how winding the Bitou is.The menu is very small. They offer three courses with about six choices of each. Neither of
us wanted a starter, don’t have the capacity we used to have! For mains, John had fillet steak
and I had prawns. My prawns were good but John’s steak (served with a Bernaise sauce)
was superb – it really did almost melt in the mouth. For pud we ordered creme brulee and
pannecotta. Both were attractively served and delicious. In fact, the creme brulee was so
delicious, I decided it’s time I learned how to make it.
The Breakfast Club
Saturday, January 26th, 2008Where do you prefer to go for that memorable breakfast?
My fav breakfast place is Ildepan – delish and nutritious… Also Cafe Marios at waterfront.
We generally do the bush breakfast at the Harvest Time market on Saturdays. There is a big breakfast, a half breakfast and you can be difficult if you want to mix and match. Sometimes the corn fritters can be a bit stodgy. At other times they are overdone along with the bacon which ends up a bit too crisp. But when it all comes together there is no question in my mind where you get the best breakfast in the Garden Route.
Sunday Lunch
Saturday, January 26th, 2008Where do you go for Sunday Lunch?
I think the best place to have sunday lunch is Paquita’s.
They have the most amazing tranquil setting, friendly service, it’s great
value for money and the food just tastes divine. All that mixed in with an awesome vibe and you get THE perfect way to end
off a hectic week.
Hi
I have no doubt that the rare roast beef, Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes & an excellent assortment of tasty vegetables with home made horse radish sauce must be the best Sunday lunch in Knysna. By now you are drooling to find out who can offer such a lunch for R45 together with quality wines at competitive prices & also has tasty starters & sweets to die for. I should really keep this a secret because it may spoil our regular visits but in the interests of sharing with other Knysna residents I will let you know its Pembreys. Oh! on top of all this is the fantastic service from long serving waitresses & the husband & wife team of Peter (cook) & Viv (front of house). What more could you ask for?
See you there!!
Not only is Sirocco known for its Sunday lunches but for its great hospitality and service. There food is absolutely outstanding. They offer a ala carte menu which has a great variety to choose from. If i could recommend a meal it would be there trinchados which is a very well known Portuguese meal which is whipped together with pieces of indulging fillet steak and whole ripe tomatoes with a tinge of spices, but if you are not a spicy person try there seafood dishes. you can never go wrong!
They have a beautifully decorated section upstairs which offers a gorgeous view of the knysna lagoon so you can eat at your grace.
Together with there great food and beautiful views of the knysna lagoon they also offer live music from 12 to 3 pm. so not only does there food make your mouth water, there restaurant is filled with great atmosphere and good company!
This is an extravagant experience not to be missed!
As Sirocco says “immerse your senses!”
hello to who it may concern
i think its the island coffee shop, very good value for money and lovely plate of food.
On Sundays when the clock strikes noon
We like to head for our lagoon.
We make our way to Knysna Quays
To catch the fresh and salty breeze.
The Drydock is the place to eat,
It’s always such a special treat:
A smart but friendly, vibey place -
And what’s more, the food is ace!
Win a meal for 2!

Maureen’s Place
Friday, January 18th, 20086th January 2008
Last Sunday I was a guest at a luncheon at Maureen’s Place on Long Street in Knysna and was I surprised?! The restaurant has had a very pleasant facelift, with the entrance patio now attractively laidout with a water feature , tub shrubs , comfortable tables and chairs under two big trees which entices one to stop to enjoy the coolth. Inside the glass topped tables and modern art on the walls completes the impression of cleanliness and efficiency which was borne out by the food offered . A good selesction of hors d’oeuvres (can’t think when I last found that on a Sunday lunch menu) , followed by a carvery style main course consisting of Pork and Lamb , crackling and roast potatoes better than one gets at home and best of all about six veggies . A choice of 4 sweets and coffee completed the meal. There is plenty of safe parking opposite the restaurant too so enjoy a meal there, you won’t be disappointed.
Advance Booking adviseable.
