Sedgefield is a small coastal village town situated in the Lakes District on the Garden Route It offers bird watchers a rich and varied birdlife, including marine, estuarine and evergreen forest species which can be viewed along many hiking trails and bird hides within the different eco-systems in the surrounding area. Swartvlei the largestof the lakes, lies on the west side of the village forming a safe estuary for bathing. It provides for good fishing for the enthusiastic angler. There are beautiful rock formations near Gerickes Point which is also a popular spot for spear fishing.
